Post-doctoral Fellow – Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, Concordia University
Professor Adam Radomsky, the Anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Laboratory (AOCDL), and the Centre for Clinical Research in Health (CCRH) at Concordia University invite applications for a Post-Doctoral Clinical Research Fellowship position, ideally beginning in late fall 2021/winter 2022. The AOCDL, located in Montreal, Quebec, is a combined clinical and research unit specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and related problems, and applied research on the nature and treatment of anxiety and related disorders with a focus on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The CCRH’s mission is to promote empirical science in areas related to physical and mental well-being, to create a public forum for the exchange of research, practice ideas and information, and to create opportunities for the professional development of members.
We invite applications for a postdoctoral fellow who will spend approximately 60% time engaged in clinical acetivities, and approximately 40% time participating in research activities. Successful candidates will be involved in research and clinical responsibilities of a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)-supported project examining the acceptability of a novel cognitive therapy for OCD. Clinical duties will include outpatient/online cognitive-behavioral therapy for adults, administering a novel cognitive therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It is anticipated that the fellow’s case load will comprise adults with OCD, and anxiety and/or mood disorders. The position will provide postdoctoral clinical hours and supervision necessary for licensure. Project collaborators include Professors Stanley Rachman and Roz Shafran, and Drs. Gail Myhr, and Frederic Aardema. (As the work involves the provision of clinical services, even if they may be online, the post-doctoral fellow will be required to be located in Quebec following an initial period of training.)
Activities may include serving as a study therapist or independent assessor/evaluator, writing articles, or conducting data analyses, in addition to numerous opportunities for independent basic or applied research in collaboration with Professor Radomsky. Although extensive research experience is not required, the ideal candidate will demonstrate adherence to the scientist-practitioner model, enjoy working in a research-rich environment, and seek opportunities to connect clinical and research activities.
Other duties may include supervision of other lab members, and developing teaching/training materials.
Qualifications include a doctoral degree in clinical psychology (CPA or APA accredited, or equivalent) and experience providing cognitive-behavioral therapy for OCD, anxiety disorders and/or related problems. Experience with assessment methods (e.g., semi-structured diagnostic interviews), good statistical skills, and good writing skills (e.g., publications) are assets.
Post-doctoral fellows are supported in developing an area of clinical expertise as well as a program of research over the course of their fellowship term. Fellows are well-positioned, then, to pursue careers in clinical or academic settings.
The AOCDL values diversity in all its forms, which includes but is not limited to differences in ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, family structure, disability status, educational background, and socioeconomic status. In our mission for excellence in research, teaching, and learning, we strive for a community that is equitable, inclusive, and supportive of its members. As such, we especially encourage applicants reflecting diverse identities and backgrounds to apply.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Send (by email) (1) a detailed letter of interest describing qualifications and experience; (2) curriculum vitae; (3) two or three letters of recommendation; (4) one example of scholarly writing (preferably a published article) to:
